Recent debates about the subject in postmodernity are hindered by their contraposition of destruction or defence of the subject. In reality, transformation is needed. The external plurality of different orientations within society today calls for inner pluralisation as a condition for plurality competence. Whereas the traditional "strong" subject tried to overcome plurality, the new "weak" type of subject seeks ways to live pluralistically. For this purpose a new form of coherence and identity is needed which is to be found in transversality. Transversality provides a form of subjectivity which meets contemporary needs. |
